The Northshore Performing Arts Center presents “Pot Luck” by Patrick F. McManus, starring McManus’ “indentured actor,” Tim Behrens on Saturday, Feb. 27.
McManus, one of the most popular humor writers in the country, has penned 21 titles which have sold more than 6 million copies. Five of his short humor collections have made the top 10 of the NY Times Bestseller’s list. His five one-man shows, all performed by Behrens, have played to more than 400,000 people in 21 states.
“Pot Luck” presents a wide array of weird McManus stories. Witness Pat as he gets abducted by space aliens. Find out why Mrs. Swisher thinks Martians have grown wheat for their young near her farm. Understand why a Grasshopper Trap doesn’t need really large jaws… and why ethics demand that Girls Scout Cookies be returned. And which Pigs can be saddled and which cannot. Meet 100-year-old Ed and decide whether he can be trusted… not to die on a camping trip.
The McManus Comedies are family-friendly comedic stories about growing up in rural America when you’re dirt poor — dirt being the only toy you can afford — and when the adults in your life get nervous every time they pass you on the street.
Behrens has previously performed at NPAC in the McManus-penned comedies “A Fine and Pleasant Misery” and “McManus in Love.” Having been raised in a household of two actors, Behrens avoided acting “like the plague,” until some moment of alchemy got him onto the stage for the first time at age 32.
Since then, Behrens has been the managing/artistic director of Centre Theatre Group in Spokane, and then became marketing manager and reader for the audio book company, Books In Motion. From 1993, Behrens devoted full time to the McManus Comedies for ten years. In 2003 he founded, with his wife Leslie Ann Grove, CenterStage in Spokane.
