Jeff Borror of Shoreline is part of the Amateur Softball Association’s 2004 National Softball Hall of Fame class.
The longtime third baseman and two other fastpitch standouts were inducted Nov. 11 in Mobile, Ala., as part of the 73rd annual ASA council meeting.
Borror was a fixture in the Pay ‘n Pak and Peterbilt Western lineup from 1976-88, appearing in 12 ASA national championships. He played in five U.S. Olympic Festivals and was a member of the 1987 U.S. Pan American and 1988 International Softball Federation World Championship teams.
At the 1980 ASA national tournament Borror drove in the tying and winning runs for Peterbilt Western in the 14th inning of a 2-1 championship victory with a double. Borror batted .318 at the tournament and finished the season with a .258 average.
Peterbilt changed sponsors and in 1982 won the ASA national title under the Pay ‘n Pak banner. Three years later, Pay ‘n Pak captured another national title with Borror batting .500 (6-for-12) and earning All-America honors.
Two more ASA championships and All-America laurels for Borror followed in 1986 and 1987 as Pay ‘n Pak tied Fort Wayne’s record of three consecutive national titles.
Borror batted .357 (5-for-14), scored one run and drove in two runs during the 1986 tournament and delivered a game-winning grand slam to keep Pay ‘n Pak alive in the 1987 tournament. After losing its opener, Pay ‘n Pak rattled off 11 straight wins to match Fort Wayne’s mark.
After winning the 1987 national title, Pay ‘n Pak went on to represent the U.S. in the 1988 ISF World Championship in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Borror contributed 13 assists and two putouts at third base as the Americans earned the gold medal.
Between 1978 and 1987, Borror played in five U.S. Olympic Festivals and was a member of three gold medal-winning teams (1981, 1983 and 1986). Borror sported a perfect fielding percentage and hit .182 for the U.S. Pan American team that lost to Canada in the finals of the 1987 Games.
Borror retired following the 1988 season and spent the next eight seasons managing fastpitch teams.Information courtesy of the ASA Hall of Fame.
