Nile to drop golf balls

The Nile Shriners are sponsoring the annual Golf Ball Drop at 4 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Nile Shrine Golf Course in Mountlake Terrace. The golf balls will be dropped from a helicopter and the ball closest to the pin wins the $2,000 grand prize. The next two closest balls win $500 each and another 17 balls will be selected at random for $100 prizes. A total of $5,000 will be awarded. Numbered golf balls may be purchased for $5. S-ball tryouts coming up

The Shoreline Avalanche 14U fastpitch softball team is looking for players no older than 14 as of Dec. 31, 2003. Tryouts will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 17 at Paramount Park Field (155th and 8th NE., Shoreline). For more information call Hal Snow, 425-346-7669.

Washington MsStix, a U16A girls fastpitch team, is looking to fill several positions for its 2004 roster. Tryouts will be Aug. 24 and Sept. 7 in Mountlake Terrace. For more information call Jeff Head, 206-730-5178.
