Fall festival for children next week

La Petite Academy will once again host a fall festival as a safe alternative to trick or treating.

The event will feature games, food and raffle prizes. Prizes donated by local businesses help to raise donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The event takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the academy, located at 13231 Bothell-Everett Highway next to the Les Schwab tire store. For more information, call 425-338-1651.

Mill Creek Little League fund raiser

Commemorative engraved pavers are being sold by Mill Creek Little League in order to raise money for the purchase of a scoreboard for the new Mill Creek Sports Park. The city of Mill Creek’s budget for the park did not include a scoreboard, which has an estimated cost of $6,000 to $10,000.

These pavers will be placed in the “Walk of Fame” around the concession stand. Pavers are $75 for a 4-inch-by-8-inch paver or $150 for an 8-inch-by-8-inch one.

For more information, call Tom Davis at 425-481-4904 or Holli Redington at 425-337-7210.

Library book sale grosses $1,000

The Mill Creek Friends of the Library used book sale on Oct. 11 brought in more than $1,000 to the organization, according to treasurer Mieke Gouwerok-Van Coetsem.

“We did better than we expected, because the weather was so lousy,” she said of the day, which had windy and rainy conditions. “We were very pleasantly surprised.”

The organization conducts two used book sales per year, one in the spring and one in the fall. The fall sales figures equaled that of the spring sale, said Gouwerok-Van Coetsem.

Funds raised from the sale go to support programming for children and adults at the Mill Creek Library.
