Buckshnis isn’t qualified for job

When Strom Peterson was chosen as the successor to Deanna Dawson, I was very pleased that we have a person on the council who was willing to make decisions after he thought the issue through completely. I believe he has become an asset who the citizens of Edmonds will rely on to continue to make good decisions.

When I review his opponent in this election, I am amazed that when asked what traits qualify her, she talks about her years in banking regulatory work she did in Lithuania; however, she neglects to say that for all intent and purposes that country was a disaster. I have two concerns here — one, city government here is very different and there are more laws (city, county, state, federal) than can be imagined; second, it seems that there is very little experience other than banking in her background.

She has suggested putting in parking kiosks to glean money from our citizens and further hurt the businesses in the downtown core. I believe during the levy committee meetings, she suggested putting a separate tax in the water bills — which she indicated would not need citizen approval.

One comment she has made and that has been documented is that she feels the fire district issue should be placed on a ballot, because “… most of the firemen I know are not financially astute to understand….” I find this most disrespectful to men and women who put their lives on the line every day and still manage to take care of their families “financially.”

It is clear to me that Ms. Buckshnis does not understand how city government works and does not appear to want to be a member of a team, which is what will be required on the council. Teams work together.
