Tax workshop — Dec. 5

The Washington state Department of Revenue will hold a free Business Outreach workshop from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Everett Public Library, 2707 Hoyt Ave., in Everett. Issues to be discussed during the workshop include: tax-reporting classifications, deductions, sales-tax collection, and record-keeping requirements. Attendees also will have the opportunity to ask questions regarding taxes that apply specifically to their business. Community Capital Development orientation — Dec. 5

Community Capital Development, a nonprofit economic development organization that includes the Northwest Washington Women’s Business Center, will hold a free orientation from noon to 1 p.m. Dec. 5 at the NWWBC’s Everett office, 2333 Seaway Blvd., Suite 108. The course is designed to give attendees information on how Community Capital Development can help them start a new business. Topics to be covered include how to write a business plan, how to research a market and how to prepare financial statements that will help a business get funded. After attending orientation, attendees can make arrangements to meet with a WBC business assistance officer for further guidance. Individual consultations are offered free of charge. Marysville Tulalip Chamber Holiday Business After Hours — Dec. 6

The Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors will hold a Holiday Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Greater Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce &Visitor Information Center, 8825 34th Ave. NE, Suite C, in Tulalip. The popular, festive mixer will be held for the third year running and will feature delicious, catered appetizers and cocktails while offering attendees the opportunity to mingle with more than 100 area business and community leaders. WSA holiday networking — Dec. 6

WSA, Washington’s technology association, will hold Cocktails &Contributions, a holiday networking event, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Twist Restaurant and Lounge, 2313 First Ave., in Seattle. During the event, a raffle will be held to support Toys for Tots, with raffle tickets “costing” one new, unwrapped toy per ticket (or $10 per ticket in lieu of a toy, which WSA staff will use to purchase toys). Commercial Real Estate Insights breakfast — Dec. 7

The Commercial Brokers Association will hold its 11th annual Commercial Real Estate Insights program from 7 to 9 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Seattle. The focus of the event will be on “The Challenges and Opportunities of Capital Markets, Branding and Sustainable Development.” Speakers scheduled to attend include Linda Berman, brand consultant and president of Team I-Sight; John Parker, principal, president and chief executive officer of Kennedy Associates Real Estate Counsel; and Dennis Wilde, principal of Gerding Edlen. Strategic-planning seminar — Dec. 7

The Edmonds Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training will hold a workshop on Strategic Planning from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Edmonds Conference Center, 201 Fourth Ave. N., in Edmonds. Audrey Godwin, certified public accountant and the principal and founder of The Godwin Group PLLC, will be the speaker. As chief financial officer and strategist for small to midsize businesses, she has assisted in building business profits and value through planning to minimize taxes as well as through creation of innovative business development solutions. Arts legal clinic — Dec. 10

The nonprofit arts legal service organization Washington Lawyers for the Arts will hold a legal clinic for artists and arts organizations from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Arts Council of Snohomish County offices, 1507 Wall St., in Everett. Attendees can make an appointment for a low-cost, private legal consultation for up to 30 minutes with an attorney specializing in arts and entertainment law. Topics of concern include copyright, trademark, licensing, fair-use and contract issues. All issues discussed must be related to attendees’ artistic discipline. Cost is a $20 donation to the organization for a 30-minute appointment, to be paid during the clinic. The donation is not tax deductible. Appointments are required and confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis. Everett Chamber Holiday Open House — Dec. 11

The Everett Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its Holiday Open House from 2 to 6 p.m. Dec. 11 at its office, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Suite 205, in the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at the Everett Events Center. The event will include food and fun. Guests are asked to help brighten someone’s holidays by bringing canned or nonperishable food items to donate to the Everett Food Bank. Those attending should register by Dec. 7. The Snohomish County Human Resources Association will feature Pat Schwab’s presentation of “Leave a Mark, Not a Stain! — Humor as a Critical Leadership Skill” from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Holiday Inn &Conference Center, 3105 Pine St., in Everett. Schwab, president of FUNdamentally Speaking, a speaking and consulting business, will cover topics such as what workplace humor says about staff morale and values, how to use humor to enhance creativity and productivity, why men and women use humor differently, and ways to establish outlets for stress-reducing humor with staff. John Koster’s Business Roundtable — Dec. 13
