The Edmonds Historical Museum is currently presenting the exhibit, “Button Blast,” a display from the Washington State Button Society.

Learn about those little fasteners people often take for granted. First created for decorative ornaments, buttons can be plain and simple, or truly elegant works of art made from materials such as wood, stone, ceramic, bone, fabric, horn, shell or brass.

The Washington State Button Society was first formed in 1939 -– just one year after the National Button Society was formed. The Society produced a display every other year for Fredrick &Nelson starting in 1942 until Fredrick’s closed. Today the WSBS still strives to create an appreciation and interest in the study of buttons through annual shows in the community.

The Edmonds Museum ‘s exhibit showcases hundreds of antique, vintage and contemporary buttons collected by WSBS members, some beautiful, some quirky.

The show runs from now through Sept. 28.

The Edmonds Historical Museum is located at 118 Fifth Ave. N. Hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Admission is a suggested donation of $2 adults, $1 children. For more information call 425-774-0900.
