Cascade Swim Club duo advances to national meet

Shorewood High School junior Kelly Woodruff followed up her sectional title by placing seventh in the 400-meter individual medley at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships Dec. 5-7 in Minneapolis.

Placing in the finals of a national competition for the first time, Woodruff finished the race in 5:02.49. Representing the Shoreline-based Cascade Swim Club, Woodruff also placed 26th in the 800 freestyle.

Teammate Meredith Thompson finished 36th in the 800 freestyle and 54th in the 400 freestyle. The Lake Forest Park resident is a junior at Holy Names Academy.

Both swimmers are coached by Shoreline resident Steve Witcher, the head coach for Cascade Swim Club for over 14 years.
