The Shoreline Chamber of Commerce raised $40,000 at its annual auction earlier this month, with over 170 community members attending the dinner at Shoreline Community College Nov. 9.

“Not only did we make lots of money, it was a great party,” said Cheryl Crow, auction events chair.

Some of the money raised will help the chamber meet expenses, while the rest will be donated to the chamber’s Dollar for Scholars program, a locally operated scholarship program that gives students financial support for education after high school, she said.

“We’ve always partnered with a local charity for the auction and this year we wanted to give back to the community by helping with scholarships,” Crow said.

“While there’s the Shoreline Foundation that helps K through 12, and the Shoreline Community College Foundation for students at that college, and there’s athletic scholarships, there is really a big hole in helping kids in this community get scholarships, so this is an opportunity for our business community to help kids who want to go to college.”

The Chamber auctioned off a used car, a trip to Mexico, a weekend at Ocean Shores and even lunch with Police Chief Denise Pentony.

“It was a great evening. Not only did we make a lot of money, people enjoyed each other and it was a great community night,” Crow said.
