Chris Eggen wants to be on the Shoreline City Council.

“I’m running because I believe Shoreline has made a start on renewable and sustainable environmental practice efforts and working the small business community and I want to continue that,” Eggen said Tuesday in announcing his candidacy.

Eggen is the treasurer of the Shoreline Solar Project, and a founding member and treasurer of Sustainable Shoreline, environmental advocacy groups with records of accomplishment.

He serves on the Shoreline Citizens Advisory Committee for Housing and is also a board member of the Shoreline Chamber of Commerce and Shoreline Dollars for Scholars. He has also participated in the YMCA and coaching youth athletic teams.

Eggen’s only other attempt at elected public office was in 2006, when he filed at the last minute as a Democrat for the 32nd District state Senate seat held by Darlene Fairley, of Lake Forest Park, also a Democrat. At the time, Eggen said he decided to run against Fairley in the event she is unable to finish her campaign for health reasons. Fairley received treatment in 2005 for a non-cancerous brain tumor.

On Tuesday, Eggen said, “I filed against Darlene Fairley based on her position on Fircrest.” Eggen said he wants “to shape a positive future for the Fircrest School which includes continued services to developmentally disabled adults and could include other community uses for the Fircrest campus,” according to a press release.

Eggen said he is running to preserve and increase affordable housing while maintaining neighborhood character. He said he would work with all other council members with an attitude of mutual respect. He supports neighborhood walkways, parks, public safety and a fiscally responsible and “flexible alternative for the Aurora project.”

Eggen is a graduate of the University of Washington in physics and electrical engineering, and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam years.

Eggen and his wife, Donna, have lived in Shoreline for 30 years and raised two children who graduated from Shorecrest High School.
