Interurban Trail bridge open house
The City of Shoreline wants to gather comments and ideas for the Interurban Trail Bridge the city plans to build over Aurora Avenue N. The city is holding an open house on the project from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at St. Dunstan’s Church, 722 North 145th St..
For construction and funding purposes, Shoreline has divided the Interurban Trail into five sections, one of which includes the bridge that will cross Aurora between N. 155th and 160th Streets. Construction of the first section between N. 145th and 155th Streets began last month and construction of the north section from N. 192nd to 205th Streets will begin this fall. Shoreline expects to begin construction on the section from N. 155th to 175th Streets in early 2004, and the bridge in late 2004 or early 2005.
The City is currently evaluating alternatives for alignment and design for how the Trail will cross Aurora. The Open House will be a drop-in format featuring displays on possible alternatives for the crossing. Those attending will be asked for their comments on alignment, types of bridges, character and the criteria the City will use in making the final design selection.
For more information about the Interurban Trail, contact Project Manager Kirk McKinley at 206-546-3901.

Environmental car washing
The city of Shoreline is offering community groups a way to make car wash fundraisers more environmentally friendly. A Vacuboom is available on loan from the city by calling 206-546-2659.
The Vacuboom device collects soapy water and pumps it to a lawn, a sink or to another drain that leads to the wastewater treatment system. Usually when a car is washed in a driveway, the waste water flows down the driveway, along the street and into a storm drain. From there, the soapy water flows directly into Shoreline’s waterways and streams.
Stencil for stream protection
To keep harmful substances out of Shoreline’s lakes and streams, community and school groups can stencil storm drains with the message “No Dumping, Drains to Stream.” The city of Shoreline will loan stenciling kits and instructions to interested groups. For information call 206-546-2659.
