LYNNWOOD — The latest addition to the ranks of the city’s large employers is already moving workers into its new site inside the 92-acre Opus Northpointe Corporate Campus near the intersection of I-5 and 164th St. SW.

By late July, Comcast will employ 350 immediately with room for another 150. Most of the new employees will be customer service representatives.

“They’ll handle virtually all calls made from Washington State Comcast customers,” said Steve Kipp, Comcast’s vice president of communications.

Once the new site is open, the nation’s largest cable TV and broadband Internet communications provider will have three statewide call centers in Fife, Everett and Lynnwood with 1,000 customer service representatives answering telephones for the company’s 1.2 million Washington customers.

The $20 million, two-story 87,385-square foot office will include a 2,000 square-foot cable store, where customers can pay their bills, exchange equipment and look at new equipment, Kipp said.

He said the company selected the Lynnwood site because of its easy access to I-5 and to public transportation and the “willingness of local elected officials and folks in Snohomish county to work with us and work with our needs.”

Additionally, Kipp said, the company wanted a location that would be convenient for some of the Everett call center employees who are moving to the new Lynnwood location.

“We’re excited about it because it’s not only the call center but they are consolidating their regional office, said Lynnwood’s Economic Development Director David Kleitsch. “So I think it speaks very well to a Lynnwood location.”

The company’s regional headquarters, which houses engineering, marketing and human resources, is in Bothell and many of the 60 employees at that site will relocate to Lynnwood, Kipp said.

In addition to adding 350 jobs in Lynnwood, Comcast plans to hire 200 people statewide to meet the growing demand for its products and services. Most of these new jobs will be customer service representatives and cable technicians.

Washington CEO magazine recently selected Comcast as the third best company to work for among large companies.
