In three weeks, we’ll start candidate filing for ballot positions in the August primary election.
Here are the offices that we’ll see on the August primary and November general election ballots:
Statewide – U.S. senator, governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, state treasurer, attorney general, state auditor, state lands commissioner, insurance commissioner, superintendent of public instruction and three positions on the state supreme court
The elections for governor, secretary of state, state auditor, attorney general and one supreme court position won’t have incumbents on the ballot because Gov. Chris Gregoire, Secretary of State Sam Reed, Auditor Brian Sontagg and Supreme Court Justice Tom Chambers are retiring, and Attorney General Rob McKenna is running for governor.
Congress – the new 2nd District, including Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace and Brier; the new 7th District, including Edmonds and Woodway; and a special election for the last month of Jay Inslee’s term in the old 1st District, which includes all of South Snohomish County
Legislature – a Senate seat and both House seats in the 1st Legislative District, including Brier and most of Mountlake Terrace; two House seats in the 21st District, including most of Edmonds and unincorporated areas north of Edmonds and Lynnwood; two House seats in the 32nd District, including Lynnwood, Woodway, south Edmonds, part of Mountlake Terrace and unincorporated areas of southwest Snohomish County near Edmonds and Woodway
Countywide – a position on the public utility district board and 15 positions on the superior court
