Help get ivy out of local parks
If you’ve lived in the Northwest for any amount of time, you know how fast ivy, blackberries and other invasive plants can take over, crowding out less aggressive species.
To help combat this, the city of Shoreline is holding a series of “Ivy Out” events where neighbors can join forces to reclaim local park land so native plants can thrive. The first Ivy Out gathering will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Northcrest Park, 827 NE 170th St. The second Ivy Out gathering will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 19 at North City Park, 19201 Tenth Ave. NE. Future events will be scheduled at other Shoreline parks.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves. Some tools will be provided and light refreshments will be served. All ages are welcome with a supervising adult if under 18. For more information, contact Kirk Peterson at 206- 306-1488.
