Free tax workshop

for business owners

The Everett office of the Washington State Department of Revenue will host a free workshop for new and small business owners from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Everett Public Library, 2707 Hoyt Ave.

Participants will learn about Washington excise taxes, reporting classifications, deductions, tax incentives, sales-tax collection and record-keeping requirements. To register visit www.dor.wa.gov or call 425-356-4800.

Parks &rec classes offer variety

There’s still time to take advantage of winter classes offered by the Edmonds Parks &Recreation Department. To register or for more information call 425-771-0230, visit www.reczone.org or stop by the Frances Anderson Center at 700 Main Street.

Children’s classes include:

• KidzArt Drawing Classes: Sessions begin Monday, Jan. 8, for various age groups.

• Beginning Keiki Hula: Learn the language, tradition and history of the dance form along with several traditional Hawaiian hulas. Tuesdays beginning Jan. 9.

• Art Daze: Learn about a different famous artist every week and create art through painting, drawing, use of pastels and other methods. Thursday beginning Jan. 11.

• Three Bear Party: Help the bears solve the mystery of who’s in their house. For ages 2-4 with an adult. Saturday, Jan. 13.

Adult classes include:

• Drawing in Pencil: Learn fundamental techniques. Wednesdays beginning Jan. 10.

• Mandala Workshop: Experience the art form involving white and colored pencils and black paper before signing up for a class series. Wednesday, Jan. 10.

• Beginning Ukulele: Wednesdays beginning Jan. 10.

• Painting with Watercolor: For beginners and experienced painters. Thursdays beginning Jan. 11.

• Saturday Night Dance: Salsa, Ballroom, West Coast Swing and Night Club Two-Step classes are available. Beginning Saturday, Jan. 13.

Edmond Lions present winter programs

The Edmonds Lions Club has announced its winter meeting programs. Meetings take place at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of the month in the Stevens Hospital cafeteria, 21601 76th Ave. W. in Edmonds, and are open to the public.

• Jan. 8 — club business meeting

• Jan. 22 — Carolyn Meyer, director of the Louis Braille School, on the Edmonds-based school

• Feb. 12 — Valentine’s Day evening featuring Artista Wine Cellars. Members’ spouses are invited

• Feb. 26 — Judge Steve Dwyer on his experiences with the Washington State Court of Appeals

Maplewood church seeks choir director

A choir director interested in helping bring “inspiration and vitality” to the congregation through traditional and contemporary music forms is being sought by Maplewood Presbyterian Church.
