Teachers laud parks programs

Edmonds Parks and Recreation’s “Discovery” programs will receive the Environmental Education Association of Washington’s annual Organizational Excellence Award at the group’s convention Saturday, June 25 in Vancouver.

The programs provide interpretive and environmental education opportunities for school children and other visitors to Edmonds parks and beaches. They also promote stewardship of Puget Sound, its shoreline and the surrounding watershed.

Fundraiser benefits seniors

South County Senior Center will host its sixth annual “Light Up the Sound” Dinner Auction at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16.

The major fundraiser will include a catered dinner plus live and silent auctions. Among the auction items are a cruise, weekend getaways and tickets for theater and sports events.

All proceeds benefit the senior center, which provides essential services, educational programs, socialization and recreation for senior citizens. It’s located on the Edmonds waterfront at 220 Railroad Ave.

Tickets are $45 and include hors d’oeuvres, dinner and beverages. Reservations are required and must be made by Thursday, Sept. 1. Call Margo at 425-774-5555 for further information.
