Break Dance Battle set for Saturday

Help support the Shoreline / South County Family YMCA at The Battle of Shoreline, a break dance battle, set for 6-10 p.m. Saturday, March 12 at the Shoreline YMCA. The event will feature a special performance by Kontagious and free refreshments. Organized by current youth participants, the Battle of Shoreline will help raise money and awareness for the Shoreline / South County Family YMCA. Tickets are $5 at the door or $3 for pre-registered breakers.

Cat shelter needs volunteers

Purrfect Pals Cat Shelter needs volunteers to help prepare for the Average Joe Cat Show on April 30 at the Shoreline Center. DIG IT! Green Gardening Fair

The second annual DIG IT! Gardening Fair is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19 at Third Place Commons in the Lake Forest Park Town Center.

Highlights of the event include launching Good Stewards, the newest community Backyard Wildlife Habitat program.

Seminar workshops include Creating a Wildlife Habitat (Gretchen Muller, National Wildlife Federation), Gardening for Songbirds (Robyn Atkinson, Robynswood Landscaping), Practical Pruning for Wildlife (Linelle Russ, Plant Amnesty, Morningdew Gardens) and Bees and other Beneficial Insects (Martha Clatterbaugh)

Creative children’s activities include:

• Mural painting

• Using recycled newspaper in the garden

• Cookie decorating

• Making butterfly clips

• Environmental poetry festival

Attendees of workshops will be eligible for raffle prizes, 120 weed hounds will sell for a discounted price of $7, native plants will be sold at discount prices, and selected exhibitors will give away organic seeds to gardening fairgoers. Get ideas and tools to start your own native garden and wildlife habitat. For adults, there will be a benefit plant sale, gardening advice from Master Gardeners, instant online Backyard Wildlife Habitat certification, and practical gardening information from exhibitors.

Lake Forest Park Spring Plant Sale

The  Lake Forest Park Garden Club will be having its annual spring plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at 5724 NE. 190th St. Kenmore. The sale will be in the front yard of a private home. For sale will be perennials, annuals, herbs, shrubs, roses and tomatoes. For more information, call 425-488-8736.
