Kitchen herbs topic of luncheon

“Herbs in the Kitchen” is the topic for the next Mill Creek Garden Club meeting and luncheon, which takes place at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 12 at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive.

Lunches are $17 for members and $20 for guests. Club dues are $20 per year.

Spay and neuter clinic offered

Pasados Safe Haven is sponsoring a spay and neuter clinic for dogs and cats next week at Thrasher’s Corner. A mobile clinic will visit the Safeway store at 20711 Bothell-Everett Highway on Thursday, April 15.

All services can be paid for on a cash-only basis, and free surgery is available for those on public assistance.

DARE-Coldstone fund-raiser update

The March 26 fund-raiser at the Mill Creek Town Center Coldstone Creamery to benefit the fifth-grade DARE program at Mill Creek Elementary raised $678, according to a city of Mill Creek memo.

The total represented 50 percent of proceeds during the store’s four-hour grand opening celebration.

Members of the police department, Snohomish County Fire District 7, and Mill Creek Elementary School staff participated by scooping ice cream for patrons.

The DARE program has an ongoing fund-raiser in which chocolate police badges are sold for $1 to help support the program. Badges are available at the police department front counter in City Hall, 15728 Main St.

City Earth Day event coming up

The city of Mill Creek will have its first Earth Day celebration at 9 a.m. April 23 at City Hall, 15728 Main St.

Event volunteers will re-plant flowers at various locations around town, clear brush and tree limbs at Cougar Park, and pick up trash in Town Center. Trash bags and flowers will be provided, but volunteers are asked to bring garden tools and gloves for brush and tree limb projects.

The event will conclude at noon with a free barbecue for volunteers at City Hall.

Assistance needed for Rescue Pup

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non-profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a non-profit pet supply store the organization operates. Pet Pleasers is located at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

In addition to donations, the organization also needs volunteers to serve as foster homes for dogs it receives.
