Safely dispose of hazardous waste

Residents can properly dispose of household hazardous materials by dropping them by the King County Wastemobile, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19-21 at the Aurora Square Sears, 15711 Aurora Ave. N.

The Wastemobile is operated by King County as part of the Local Hazardous Waste Management Program. King County residents can drop off hazardous household waste items, including pesticides, chlorine bleach, paint products, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.), fluorescent bulbs/ballasts and other items free of charge. Hidden Lake sewer open house

People seeking information about construction on an upcoming sewer improvement project are invited to an open house from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at Sunset Elementary School, 17800 10th Ave. NW, Shoreline. Attendees will meet King County project staff, get project updates and have questions answered.

Construction on the King County’s Hidden Lake Sewer Improvement Project will get underway in June. The work will include replacing the aging Hidden Lake Pump Station to provide better service to local residents, and adding an underground storage pipe in Boeing Creek Park to better handle the volume of sewage from the area, especially during storms. Shoreline Solar Project meetings

The Shoreline Solar Project members meet the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Meridian Park Elementary School in Shoreline, at 17077 Meridian Ave. N. The next two meetings are the following dates:

• June 21— Hybrid – Biodiesel – Electric? Which vehicle is right for you? How do different vehicles stack up environmentally? Is there any way to compare vehicles side by side as to greenhouse gases? An overview of the Green Score System and how vehicles affect Global Warming, resource depletion, pollution and alternative fuels. Star party at Paramount Park

The Seattle Astronomical Society has planned a free monthly public star party for Saturday, June 3, at Paramount Park at NE 155th and NE Eighth Avenue, in Shoreline.

Club members will set up telescopes just before dusk. Members of the public are encouraged to drop by and have a look at the sky. Saturn will be almost smack dab in the middle of the Beehive star cluster, and approaching a conjunction with Mars later in the month. Jupiter will be well-placed for viewing at a reasonable hour.
