City hosts book fair at the library

The city of Edmonds is hosting a book fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 2 in the Plaza Room above the Edmonds Library. There will be new CDs, gift items, and lots of new books for children and adults. A portion of the proceeds benefits Snohomish County United Way.

The city was recently awarded “Best in Industry” among local governments for last year’s successful United Way workplace campaign, which included “Lunch with the Mayor at Las Brisas” and an auction that earned more than $2,500. For more information call the Mayor’s Office at 425-771-0247.

Hunt for eggs at

United Methodist

An Easter egg hunt will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 10 at Edmonds United Methodist Church, 828 Caspers Street, Edmonds.

In addition to the egg hunt, the event will feature games, crafts, a slide and pony rides.

Get rid of your

expired flares

The Edmonds Flotilla 12 U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will collect expired flares and offer vessel safety checks at the Port of Edmonds on April 10.

Auxiliary personnel will be on hand at the port launcher office located at the southwest corner of the Anthony’s restaurant building. Bring expired flares and get a free vessel safety check.

The Auxiliary collected more than 2,500 flares in 2003. The program has reduced false flare sightings by more than 40 percent in the Pacific Northwest, according to the Auxiliary.

Salary panel

seeks input

The Citizens Commission on Salaries of Elected Officials has scheduled another public hearing as it reviews the salaries of the mayor and City Council.

The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, April 12 in the Council Chambers, Public Safety Complex, 250 Fifth Ave. N. A previous hearing was held March 29.

The Commission is seeking public input and will make a recommendation to the City Council regarding the amount of compensation. Written comments are welcomed prior to or at the public hearing.

Art of Luter Lund

at museum

The Edmonds Historical Museum is offering a unique glimpse of the art done by a local oil company barrel painter who had a passion for painting cartoons.

Luter Lund’s art features a comical platform for social issues of the 1940s and ’50s. The Museum has 98 of Lund’s paintings, many of which will be on display from April 1-June 30. The museum also features two permanent exhibits, “The Changing Face of Edmonds” and “Our Maritime Heritage.”

The Edmonds Historical Museum, located at 118 Fifth Ave. N., is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Suggested donations for admission are $2 for adults and $1 for students. For more information, call 425-774-0900 or visit the museum’s website at www.historicedmonds.org

Stevens marks

Sleep Week

Stevens Hospital is marking National Sleep Awareness Week, a major public awareness campaign sponsored by the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) to promote the importance of quality sleep to health, productivity and safety.

The campaign coincides with the beginning of Daylight Saving Time, when we turn our clocks forward one hour and risk losing an hour of sleep. Stevens Hospital has a Sleep Center that diagnoses and treats people with sleep disorders. For more information call the hospital at 425-640-4000.
