Firefighters race

to raise funds

Three Edmonds Firefighters climbed their way to the top of Seattle’s Bank of America Tower on Sunday, March 7. More than 800 Firefighters participated in the 13th Annual Scott Firefighter Stair Climb to help raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Edmonds Firefighter/Paramedic Art DeLisle, Firefighter Melissa Beard, and Firefighter Jay Ford raced the 69 flights wearing about 45 pounds of full turn-out gear including self-contained breathing facemasks and air bottles. Firefighter Ford climbed the 1,311 steps and 788 vertical feet in 15 minutes and 36 seconds, using only one bottle of air.

International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1828 donated the entry fees for the Edmonds Firefighters.

Books for sale

at the library

Many Edmonds residents have discovered a new resource for reading. Two carts full of books and magazines are for sale in the entry of the Edmonds Library. The Friends of the Edmonds Library maintains the sale carts on an ongoing basis now.

Hardbacks are $1; paperbacks, 50 cents and magazines 25 cents. One cart generally offers non-fiction of all kinds, including cookbooks, biographies, travel books, and more, depending on donations. The other cart offers fiction and romance. Most of the books are gently used, although sometimes brand new books find their way onto the carts.

A couple of plastic crates behind the carts offer children’s books at low prices. The crates are at child level so the kids can pick out their own favorites.

Just outside the entry to the library the Friends maintain a barrel for donated books and magazines that can be sold in either the ongoing book sale or the annual book sale that takes place in the Frances Anderson Center every October.

All proceeds are used to enhance the facilities and services of the Edmonds Library.
