Local youth earns Eagle Scout rank

Christopher Koperek, a member of Mill Creek-based Boy Scout Troop 120, has attained the rank of Eagle Scout and will be celebrated at an upcoming Eagle Scout Court of Honor.

For his Eagle project, Koperek remodeled the facility that houses his youth group at his Lynnwood church.

The court of honor is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 27 in Mill Creek. A location was not set as of The Enterprise deadline.

Child discipline seminar upcoming

Advent Lutheran Church in Mill Creek will host an event where parents can get help with a variety of disciplinary challenges that come from raising a child.

A free introduction on positive discipline, a method of creating mutual respect in the home, with Jody McVittie, M.D., takes place from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 3 at the church, 4224 132nd St. SE.

Build a birdhouse at parks class

Snohomish County Parks is offering a build-a-birdhouse workshop from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 3, at Willis Tucker Community Park, 6705 Puget Park Drive in Silver Firs, just east of Mill Creek.

The cost is $5 per person or $15 per family. Each birdhouse kit costs $5, payable to the instructor.

A park ranger will share information on attracting birds to your backyard and building the right house for them. Those attending will take home a birdhouse they built themselves.

City council retreat is set for March 11

The Mill Creek City Council will have its annual retreat Saturday, March 11 at North Creek Presbyterian Church, 621 164th St. SE., in Mill Creek.

Hours and an agenda were not finalized as of The Enterprise deadline, but the retreat will be eight hours long, most likely from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the topics the council will most likely discuss include financial goals, budgeting and a long-term vision for the city, such as future annexations and parks.

March city council meeting canceled

The Mill Creek City Council meeting of March 14 was canceled by the council on Feb. 14. The cancellation is because of the annual retreat by the elected body, which takes place March 11.

Toastmasters club seeks members

The Mill Creek Toastmasters Club, sponsored by the Mill Creek Business Association, is looking for charter members.

The club meets from noon to 1 p.m. every Wednesday in the conference room at the Mill Creek Country Club, 15500 Country Club Drive.

Child safety seat installations

Snohomish County Fire District 7 offers child safety seat installation. Installation times are by appointment because not all fire stations have a certified child safety seat technician on every shift.

Rescue Pup in need of donations

Rescue Pup, a Mill Creek-based non profit organization that finds homes for stray sick and injured dogs, regularly needs donations to cover veterinary expenses.

Donations can be made at Pet Pleasers, a pet supply store operated by Rescue Pup, which is located at the corner of 9th Avenue SE and 164th Street SE.

In addition to donations, the organization also needs volunteers to serve as foster homes for dogs it receives.

DARE chocolate shield fund raiser

Mill Creek police are selling police department chocolate shields for $2 to benefit the DARE program.

The shields were made from a mold that was designed with the Mill Creek water wheel and the words “Mill Creek Police.” The shields can be purchased at the police department’s service counter inside City Hall, 15728 Main St.
