YMCA sponsors Harvest Carnival

The Shoreline/South County Family YMCA is happy to announce its second Annual Fall Harvest Carnival from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28 at the YMCA, located at 1220 NE. 175th St. Bring the whole family for fun-filled family entertainment, pizza, prizes and carnival games. Fire extinguisher training offered

Northshore Fire Department is offering a Community Fire Extinguisher Training Day at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19 at the headquarters fire station, located at 18030 73rd Ave. NE, in Kenmore. The training begins with an educational presentation and concludes with a hands-on opportunity to use a fire extinguisher to put out a controlled fire and gain experience in its use.

The training is free and offered to citizens within Northshore Fire Department’s response area, which serves the cities of Lake Forest Park and Kenmore. The minimum age requirement to participate is 15 years old. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent. Safety equipment is provided. Shoreline budget process underway

Shoreline’s annual budget is the overall plan for allocating city resources to programs necessary to keep the community safe, enhance the quality of life, and maintain and develop the city’s infrastructure.

Shoreline City Manager Steve Burkett presented the 2006 Proposed Budget to the City Council on Oct. 17. The proposed budget totals $78.9 million and is balanced in all funds as required by state law.

As directed by Council, the proposed budget places primary emphasis on maintaining current services, enhancing economic development and investing in capital projects to enhance the city’s facility, transportation and surface water systems.

City Council meetings are held in the Mt. Rainier Room of the Shoreline Conference Center, 18560 First Ave. N. For more information, call the Agenda Line at 206-546-2190.

Council will be reviewing the budget during the next month at the following meetings:

• 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7 – Department Budget Reviews

• 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14 – Budget Review Workshop and Public Hearing on Revenue Sources and Property Tax Levy

• 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 21 – Budget Review Workshop

• 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 28 – Adoption of 2006 Budget and 2006 Property Tax Levy
