Residents and drivers in the Mill Creek area are weathering noise and traffic impacts from construction in eight different locations in and around the city.
A restoration project along North Creek by Tastad Construction is headed for the cleanup stage at several work sites. In October, workers will plant native plants between the old creek bank and a new bank. Next week, crews are scheduled to patch the concrete along North Creek trail where it was damaged by heavy equipment during the restoration work.
On Dumas Road, the final asphalt paving was completed Aug. 30-31. The contractor is adjusting utilities in the roadway to the final grade and continuing the landscape planting. The final striping on the roadway will be done in the next week or two as weather conditions allow. Handrail installation has also begun along the top of the retaining walls.
After agreeing to terms with the Heatherwood Apartments developer, construction began on North Creek Drive on Sept. 6. The road section is now gravel between the Heatherwood Apartments and Nature’s Landing. Construction is expected to take four to six weeks to complete.
Scott Smith, assistant city engineer, has completed biennial bridge inspections for 2005. Federal law requires all public agency bridges to be inspected at least once every two years , with the results going to the state Department of Transportation. The city has eight structures that are monitored on a regular basis, including pedestrian crossings under Village Green Drive for the golf course to a three span, 90-foot long bridge over North Creek on 153rd Street SE.
In Cougar Park, concrete curbing around the playground equipment areas was poured this week, as was some of the concrete between the picnic shelter area and the curbing. Underground utilities were also installed, except for the irrigation system piping. Next week, workers will begin erecting the roof for the picnic shelter and begin installation of the playground equipment. The schedule calls for the park to be completed by the middle of October.
In Vineyards Park, the curbing was completed around the play equipment area. Next week, crews will begin to assemble the playground equipment. The contractor’s schedule calls for the project to be completed by the end of October.
Work on Main Street at Mill Creek Blvd. is tentatively scheduled to begin Sept. 12. The project includes a new traffic signal and street lighting modifications. The work is expected to take approximately two months to complete, with the signal activation sometime in early November.
