Snohomish County officials issued a countywide burn ban effective July 22.
All issued burn permits are suspended until the ban is lifted. It includes all outdoor burning except recreational fires in approved enclosures. Water must also be immediately available to douse those fires.
Burn-ban information for cities, includes:
• Edmonds, Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, Brier and Mill Creek have permanent outdoor burn bans, which includes all outdoor fires except small cooking fires and barbecues. With the county’s ban in effect, however, any outdoor cooking must be done in enclosures constructed of a noncombustible material such as metal or concrete.
• Woodway and the unincorporated Esperance area also have permanent outdoor burning bans except for cooking and recreational fires and additional restrictions to cook outdoors in an enclosure constructed of a noncombustible material.
Puget Sound Clean Air is the agency that establishes county-wide indoor and outdoor burning bans to protect air quality in the Puget Sound area. The current ban, issued by the Office of the Snohomish County Fire Marshal, was issued to help prevent accidental fires caused by cooking and other fires that could ignite brush, vegetation, and structures.
Further information on the current Snohomish County burn ban can be found at 425-388-3508. Outdoor burning complaints can be made to 911.
