Metropolitan King County Council member Carolyn Edmonds announced that three arts and cultural programs in North King County will receive grants from 4Culture, the cultural service provider for King County.
4Culture, the new name of the Cultural Development Authority, grew out of the King County Arts Commission. 4Culture works with arts and heritage programs throughout King County, to ensure the programs continue to thrive in the region.
The grants announced today are Arts Sustained Support awards, designed to assist in the annual operating expenses of the organization. Funds distributed by 4Culture come from a percentage of King County’s Hotel/Motel tax allotted for cultural purposes. Funds are collected one year and used the next. 163 arts and cultural programs throughout King County received over $847,000 in Arts Sustained Support awards.
The recipients in District 1 are:
• Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council, $13,560: The Council supports a number of programs throughout the year, including Arts in Culture, Concerts in the Parks and the Children’s Performance Series. The Council is also involved with an arts education program, a community newsletter, a scholarship program, a public art program, and funding and technical support for local artists and arts organizations.
• Filipiniana Arts and Cultural Center of Washington, $2,260: To foster understanding, appreciation, and presentation of the arts of the Philippines, the center presents performances of traditional music and dance at schools, festivals, and community events. The group also provides educational programming and artist residencies in schools.
• Max Aronoff Viola Institute, $1,130: The Max Aronoff Viola Institute (MAVI) presents the MAVI Summer Festival and Aronoff Chamber Music Series held annually in Kenmore. Educational programs offered by MAVI include instruction, coaching and performance opportunities for professional and string players of all ages and abilities.
