The Granite Curling Club is kicking off its 42nd season with an open house Oct. 12-19. League play begins Oct. 21.

Home of the 2002 U.S. mixed champions and the 2001 U.S. men’s national champions, the Granite Curling Club has won more national titles than any other U.S. curling club and is the only facility dedicated to curling on the West Coast.

The annual open house is a chance for the public to try the sport of curling and tour the facility, located at 1440 N. 128th St. in North Seattle.

A $5 fee per person covers all equipment and instruction. It is recommended that participants wear warm, loose fitting clothes, and clean, rubber-soled shoes, or sneakers.

The open house hours are as follows: 2-10 p.m. Oct. 12; 4-8 p.m. Oct. 13; 6-8 p.m. Oct. 13-17; 6-10 p.m. Oct. 19; 5-7 p.m. Oct. 19. On Oct. 19, there will also be chili cook-off, with games and prizes.

Due to the success and increased exposure of curling in the 2002 Winter Olympics, the Granite Curling Club has seen a large surge in membership. Among the new leagues the club has added are a Sunday night mixed league, a Thursday night novice league and a Saturday drop-in league.

With members ranging from age 8 to 92, the Granite Curling Club offers leagues to suit every interest and ability. For more information, call 206-362-2446.
