When Maggie Fimia ran for Shoreline City Council she ran for public participation, public involvement. Early on she held forums to get citizen response and ideas to be incorporated into city plans, and she has continued to do that. She asks the questions that need to be asked for people to become better informed and less apathetic.

Whereas the previous city council under Steve Burkett’s management conducted business from the top down, the current council tries to find the best solution for the most people. Councilmember Fimia is well-known for inclusive process. So when her detractors step up to the podium at city council, she is gracious, welcomes them, and thanks them afterward just as she does for all, because she lives her beliefs and she believes in open government.
