Mill Creek residents looking for an alternative to the standard chain store pizza offerings now have an enticing choice right in their own backyards — Elliott Bay Pizza Company.
No, you can’t actually see Elliott Bay from the restaurant’s location in the heart of downtown Mill Creek. That’s reserved for folks who live in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood, where the original location still does a brisk business. Here you will find the same attention to quality and service.
The specialty here is pizza and sub sandwiches. What makes this fare special is the dough: pizza, bread and calzone dough is made fresh and served hot from the oven, providing a tasty, chewy foundation to the topping and filling selections.
Elliott Bay offers 28 combination pizzas ranging from traditional favorites (pepperoni, called the Tivoli on the menu), to gourmet (The Garlic Highway, consisting of fresh garlic, sun dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, topped with basil pesto), to the adventurous (The Milly Philly, comprised of garlic butter, sliced roast beef, Worchester sauce, sauteed green peppers and onions, garlic and mushrooms).
They are happy to customize your pizza too, if you have a personal favorite. Choose from 20 vegetables, 10 meats, six cheeses and four types of peppers.
Diners can get even more creative by choosing one of seven sauces: classic marinara, roasted garlic and olive oil, alfredo cheese, rosemary marinara, basil pesto or Thai peanut (which is featured on the Thai Chicken pizza, along with spinach, red onion, mozzarella and roasted red peppers).
But don’t overlook the sub menu, which offers another 26 choices in six- or 12-inch dimensions. Again, there’s something on the menu for virtually everyone, from the straight-forward Italian sub with pepperoni, salami, Canadian bacon, provolone, veggies and their own Italian dressing, to unique creations like the Maui Wowi, containing garlic butter, BBQ sauce, chicken breast, black forest ham, pineapple and mozzarella.
Elliott Bay also offers an impressive lineup of spaghetti, fettuccine and lasagna pasta dishes and “zonies,” their version of the classic calzone. And don’t forget the side options — breadsticks with mozzarella and/or marinara sauce, garlic cheese or pesto cheese bread.
While seating at Elliott Bay is limited to a half dozen tables which can quickly fill at meal times, pick-up and delivery are what make this restaurant indispensable. This menu is for commuters who want to eat at home but aren’t in the mood to cook, or party hosts who want to offer guests something more substantial than cookie-cutter Italian fast food.
But don’t think this kind of dining out is out of your price range: costs are competitive with similar franchise restaurants. In the end you’ll find the lure of ample portions and homestyle cooking infinitely more satisfying.
