The Driftwood Players continue their “Classic Movies” film series on 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 with the 2000 Aardman Animations claymation film “Chicken Run.”
A comedy drama set on a Yorkshire chicken farm in 1950s England, “Chicken Run” follows the turbulent romance between American transplant Rocky the Rooster (voiced by Mel Gibson) and Ginger the chicken, both of whom yearn for freedom and are planning a daring “prisoner of war” style escape. Time is running out as the greedy owner of the farm, Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson), finds a new way to feather her own nest — turning chickens into chicken pies.
“Chicken Run” is the first full length feature from the British animation studio that also produced the very English “Wallace &Gromit” and whose characters can be seen regularly on American television in commercials for Chevron (cars) and Serta mattresses (sheep).
Tickets for the film are $5 each, available by calling 425-774-9600 or at www.driftwoodplayers.com. The film screens at Driftwood’s Wade James Theatre, located at 950 Main St. in Edmonds.
The film series continues Dec. 21 with the musical holiday classic “White Christmas,” starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and Rosemary Clooney; Blake Edwards’ comedy “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” starring Audrey Hepburn screens Feb. 8, 2004; Disney’s children’s classic “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” is slated for April 4, 2004; and the series concludes June 6, 2004, with the 1986 comedy “Three Amigos.”
