The traditional Celtic music and dance of An Tua and the Comerford Irish Dancers is matched with the jazz vocals of Kelley Johnson and her band as the Edmonds Arts Commission presents its 2005 Winter Performing Arts Concerts.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day early Feb. 16 with Seattle’s An Tua, as they perform an evening of blazing instrumentals and evocative songs. An Tua is accompanied by the champion Comerford Dancers, featuring the jig steps and graceful reels of choreographer Tony Comerford.
Kelley Johnson and her band bring an evening of jazz and blues to Edmonds on March 2 . This award winning vocalist takes inspiration from modern jazz and the American Popular Songbook and arranges much of her material. She has been likened to Irene Kral and Carmen McRae. Johnson is a jazz educator currently on the faculty at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle.
Tickets for both concerts are $20 for adults and $15 students, or $12 adults, $8 students for single concert tickets. The performances are one hour long from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wade James Theatre, 950 Main Street, in Edmonds. Tickets may be purchased at the Frances Anderson Center at 700 Main Street in Edmonds or by calling 425-771-0228 or 425-771-0230.
Proceeds from the Winter Performing Arts concerts help EAC provide an opportunity for area youth to work with a performing artist in a school workshop — receiving inspiration and encouragement to develop their musical talents. The workshops are co-sponsored by EAC and the Edmonds School District. Edmonds Arts Commission events are supported in part by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
