Nick Brossoit won’t have anything to do with the campaign for the Edmonds School District levy and bond request going to voters in May but he’ll have to live with the results.
And, voters should take into consideration the reputation of the man who will take the district reins in July when they go to the polls.
Now 45, Brossoit has been superintendent in Tumwater for 10 years, helping to build a district ranked in the top 10 in the state. Brossoit was at the helm there last year when voters barely, by three votes, passed a much needed bond measure. That was while Edmonds district voters were turning down a similar request.
According to news reports, the Tumwater campaign chair credits Brossoit for the good relations between the district and the community, calling him “accessible.” The president of the teachers’ union calls him a good steward and fair negotiator.
The Edmonds School District will ask voters next month to approve an also needed funding package for a wide variety of improvements. That the request comes at a time of leadership change could be unsettling but voters should not let that concern enter the voting booth with them.
Along with his stable employment and personal history, Brossoit brings a strong record of the same values held dear in the Edmonds District: high academic standards, strong community outreach and open communication.
Brossoit’s recipe for leadership appears to have all the right ingredients for success here.
