Edmonds Community College has hired Jim Bovino to manage its Black Box Theatre. The college’s on-campus theater, with 200 seats and flexible seating, lighting, sound, and performance space, opened in January 2008 in Mukilteo Hall. The new four-story building also houses classrooms for high school completion and ESL students.
Bovino has more than 15 years experience in theater as a writer, performer, producer, and director. He is co-director of Flaneur Productions, a critically acclaimed performance collective based in Minneapolis. Flaneur has produced over a dozn original theater productions and also produces Heliotrope, an annual festival of underground and under recognized music. In 2004, Flaneur was recognized by American Theater Magazine as one of 12 companies around the nation to watch. Most recently, Bovino was managing director of the Ritz Theater, worked as a marketing specialist for the performing arts at the Walker Art Center, both in Minneapolis. Jim graduated cum laude from George Mason University in 1996, trained with Margolis Brown Physical Theater lab, a Decroux mime based program.
