Edmonds School District Board of Directors President Larry Ehl resigned during the Sept. 24 school board meeting.
He said his reasons for resigning were two-fold; his position as federal liaison for the state Department of Transportation requires him to travel to Olympia at least three days a week, and the additional travel from his home in Edmonds has started to cut into his personal time.
Since his triple bypass surgery in June, Ehl says he is “really committed” to spending more time with his family, including three young children, and exercising. Though he is now full recovered, he says he does not want to go through that experience again. Ehl also said he had a tough time giving his resignation.
“When you go through something like a triple bypass it makes you appreciate things even more,” Ehl said. “It was a really difficult decision because I really love being a part of the board… but since (the surgery) I’ve had to be pretty brutal with what I do with my non-work hours.”
Because Ehl’s four-year term runs through 2003, the board must appoint someone to fill his position within the next 90 days.
To apply for the position, send a letter of interest by 5 p.m. Friday, October 25 to JoAnn Kerns at the Edmonds School District: 20420 68th Ave. W. Lynnwood, WA 98036 or call 425-670-7003.
