The curtain will open on “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” at 7:30 p.m. Friday Nov. 10 for a five night run at the Mountlake Terrace High School Theatre.

The play kicks off when the Music Hall Royale (a loony Victorian musical troupe) puts on a flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery.

The story portrays John Jasper, a Jekyll-and-Hyde choirmaster who is madly in love with his music student, Rosa Bud. Bud is, in turn, engaged to Jasper’s nephew, young Edwin Drood. The title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve — but has Edwin Drood been murdered? And if so, then whodunit?

Charles Dickens tightly guarded the conclusion of this mysterious tale and unfortunately died before he revealed the ending. However, that does not prevent Mountlake Terrace High School from providing a solution.

The audience will be solicited for their input as to who is the mysterious character lurking in the background, who murdered the hero, Edwin Drood, and who will find love.

Featured performers are Brett Morrison as the sinister John Jasper, Chrissy Love in the title role of Edwin Drood, Amanda Turner as the lovely Rosa Bud, Sarah Tucker as the entertaining Princess Puffer and the melodious Eli Blaisdell as the master of ceremony, William Cartwright.
