The Music &Arts Ministries of Edmonds United Methodist Church (EUMC) will unveil and dedicate a newly-installed Visser-Rowland/Klais pipe organ on Sunday, Feb. 7 with a concert featuring noted local artists.
The organ was gifted to EUMC by The Community Church of Vero Beach, Fla., and represents a decade of work by EUMC’s Music &Arts Ministries to replace a 50-year old instrument that was beyond repair.
In order to raise funds to dismantle, transport and install the organ, EUMC’s Music &Arts Ministries has presented an Organ Benefit Concert Series, with the upcoming Dedication Concert being the third concert in the series. Many notable Seattle organists and musicians are donating their time and talents to the concert, including Douglas Cleveland, music director, Plymouth Congregational Church, Seattle; Carole Terry, Ruth Sutton Waters Professor of Organ &Harpsichord, University of Washington School of Music; J. Melvin Butler, canon musician, St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, Seattle; Joseph Adams, cathedral organist, St. James Catholic Cathedral, Seattle; Camerata, the mixed-voice choir of Seattle Children’s Chorus, John Hendrix, conductor; and Stephen Marshall-Ward and Wanda Griffiths, EUMC’s Director and Associate Director of Music &Arts, on duo organ.
Additionally, the organ’s original builder, Dr. Pieter A. Visser, retired Master Builder, Visser-Rowland Pipe Organ Builders in Houston, Texas, will be on-hand for the dedication. A complimentary dessert reception follows the concert.
