A roof fire caused about $20,000 damage to a church north of Mill Creek Monday morning, March 30.

A garbage truck driver used his cell phone to call 9-1-1 to report the fire at the Christian Faith Center in the 13000 block of 21st Dr. SE.

“Firefighters could see flames on the roof of the three-story building as they arrived,” said Leslie Hynes, public information officer for Snohomish County Fire District 1.

No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. Fire Districts 1 and 7 responded. Firefighters used a ladder truck to access the roof and quickly extinguished the fire.

“The fire damage was limited to a narrow strip on the roof about 4 feet wide and 75 feet long,” Hynes said. “There was no fire damage inside the building.”

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s office investigated the fire and determined it was started by a short in an extension cord that was being used to power spotlights mounted on the front of the building.
