EVERETT — The Everett July Fourth Foundation, in partnership with Bayside Marine, will put on Coho Derby Days with several events around Everett on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17-19.

The Everett July Fourth Foundation was formed in 2005 and its sole purpose is to create fundraising events to help sponsor the city of Everett’s July 4 fireworks show. This is the second year the foundation has partnered with Bayside Marine to create added activities around the annual Everett Coho Derby. The fishing derby is produced by the Everett Steelhead and Salmon Club as well as the Snohomish Sportsman Club. The Coho Derby is a separate and exclusive event managed by those two organizations.

Friday’s events include a 6 p.m. Texas hold’em poker tournament at PC’s Pub, 3021 Rucker Ave. Only 40 seats will be sold in advance for this tournament and the first place prize is $450 (based on a full field). A coho fishing seminar with John Martinis and Mike Greenleaf begins at 7 p.m. at Bayside Marine, 1111 Craftsman Way.

Saturday, the Coho Derby begins. Other events include Bayside Marine’s Blues, Brews and BBQ with the Blues Stage featuring The Red Hot Blues Sisters from 5 to 7 p.m. A beer and wine garden open from 2 to 8 p.m. will feature local microbrews and Northwest wines. The Captain’s barbecue dinner, with pork ribs and smoked beef brisket catered by Casper’s Taste of the South in Shoreline, is open to all participants of the coho derby and locals. Dinner tickets for $18 are pre-sold only. The cost is $18.

On Sunday, the Coho Derby awards ceremony is expected to begin at 4 p.m. and the beer and wine garden will be open from 2 to 8 p.m. Both events occur at Bayside Marine.

Tickets for the poker tournament and the Captain’s barbecue dinner are available at PC’s Pub, 3021 Rucker Ave. (425-258-9465); and Bayside Marine, 1111 Craftsman Way (425-252-3088).

The goal of adding these new activities around the fishing derby is to create a larger community-based event while showcasing the new access and resources of the Everett waterfront. Specifically, Bayside Marine has offered their facility as a gathering place for both the participants of the derby and the surrounding community.
