An organization of women lawyers will sponsor a forum March 8 to evaluate the seven candidates for a vacant Snohomish County District Court judge position in Lynnwood.
The county chapter of the Washington Women Lawyers is putting on the event starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott, 4220 Alderwood Mall Blvd., Lynnwood.
The seven candidates have applied to the County Council, which will fill a post vacated when Judge Stephen Dwyer was promoted to the Superior Court bench.
The forum is open to the public, but only members of the sponsoring organization will be allowed to evaluate candidates.
People will have an opportunity to meet the candidates 5:30-6 p.m. Candidates will make presentations and answer questions 6-7:30 p.m. Then members of Washington Women Lawyers will evaluate them.
The evaluations will be forwarded to the council for consideration in the selection process.
Besides the women lawyers, all county lawyers will have an opportunity to participate in a bar poll, scheduled to be returned by Friday. The results also will be sent to the council. In addition, the council will convene a screening committee to help interview the candidates and make recommendations.
Council chief of staff John Chelminiak said he’s not certain when the council will make the appointment.
The new judge will join two others assigned to South District Court, and must live in southwest Snohomish County. Among the candidates are Edmonds residents Douglas Fair, Beth Fraser Cullen, Jeffrey Goodwin and Michael Hall. Cheryl Beyer and Vernon Moyers Jr. live in Lynnwood, and Peter Camp is a Bothell resident.
