The Edmonds Fire Department made 87 calls in and around Edmonds from March 1-7, bringing the total calls for the year to 956.
March 7
Medics were called out to treat 10 patients.
Firefighters responded to a call concerning a TV cable sagging dangerously across 224th Street SW at 80th Avenue W. The crew temporarily secured the cable to the house thus eliminating the sag and permitting the flow of traffic. The Comcast Cable Company was contacted to make repairs.
Firefighters also responded to a reported chimney fire in a residence in the 700 block of Melody Lane. The fire crew removed the metal cap to the chimney and extinguished the fire and also removed the charred wood surrounding the chimney. The cause of the fire was believed to be due to a bird nest built within the chimney by birds striving to keep warm. They learned a good lesson for future nest building.
Firefighters were called out once again by a fire alarm in a residence in the 22500 block of 88th Avenue W. Upon their arrival the crew learned from the owner that the smoke came from the wall where the dryer had been plugged in. The plug wires were burned through and the electrical box in the wall was partially melted. The owner was advised to contact an electrician to make the necessary repairs.
March 6
Medics treated six patients, five of whom were transported to Stevens Hospital.
March 5
Medics responded to eight calls.
Firefighters responded to a “good intent” call regarding a large amount of foam in the creek in the 7800 block of 175th Street SW. It was initially determined to be a non-hazardous issue and probably caused by kids dumping some detergent into the creek
March 4
Medics responded to 12 calls including tending to an elderly lady involved in a rear-end vehicle accident with a hit and run driver in the 700 block of 15th Street SW. Fortunately she suffered only minor injuries and was transportation to a local hospital.
March 3
Medics responded to 12 calls.
In addition to responding to yet another two false alarms, the firefighters were called upon to assist in removing water from a flooded basement in a residence in the 10400 block of 231st Street SW. Upon their arrival they found the water department personnel on the scene handling the situation.
March 2
Medics were called out on nine calls during the day.
Firefighters again responded to two false alarms.
