The Edmonds Fire Department made 80 responses within Edmonds during the week of Dec. 9-16, bringing the total for the year to 3,683. They also made an additional 557 responses outside of Edmonds during the year bringing their total number of calls for the year to 4,240.
Dec. 13
Firefighters responded to an alarm in the 1000 block on Euclid Avenue, where the occupant had started a fire in his fireplace without first opening up the flue, resulting in smoke setting off the alarm.
Medics responded to 10 calls, including assisting an elderly lady who was hit by a car and suffered a broken arm and leg. She had been walking behind the car when the driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator and hit the gear shift at the same time causing the car to move in reverse, hitting the woman. After being tended to, she was transported to Stevens.
Dec. 12
Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire in the 20900 block of Hillcrest Place where a small pick up truck in a private roadway was engulfed in flames. The firefighters extinguished the fire and upon investigation discovered that the pickup bed was full of paint and thinner cans and that the vehicle had been stolen. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
Medics responded to five calls during the day.
Dec. 11
Medics responded to two vehicle accidents during the day. The first was a head-on collision at the 15700 block of 75th Place W. but neither driver suffered any injuries. The second accident was a minor three-car accident in the 24100 block of Highway 99, where a passenger of one of the vehicles was en route to the hospital to give birth. She was not injured and was OK’d to continue on her way to the hospital.
Medics responded to another nine calls during the day.
Dec. 10
Firefighters responded to a call at a restaurant in the 24000 block of Highway 99 where neon lights around an awning were burning. The fire was extinguished by the owner with a portable fire extinguisher prior to the arrival of the firefighters who then soaked the area surrounding the fire upon their arrival.

Dec. 9
Medics responded to five calls for various reasons, including individuals suffering from dizziness, chest pains, unconsciousness and domestic abuse.
