A funeral service in the tradition of those historically reserved for law-enforcement officers who die in the line of duty will be conducted for Edmonds Police Chief David Stern at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1, at Westgate Chapel in Edmonds. City offices will be closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day to allow employees to attend.
The church is located at 22901 Edmonds Way.
Multiple law-enforcement agencies from throughout the Puget Sound region and city officials will participate in the service. There were no plans for a graveside service, according to the Edmonds police.
Beck’s Funeral Home in Edmonds is handling arrangements.
The body of the chief was brought back to Edmonds from Harborview Wednesday afternoon. It was escorted by a motorcade made up of officers from several law-enforcement agencies and cars bearing the Stern family.
In lieu of flowers, the Sterns have requested donations be sent to the Edmonds Police Foundation in care of the Edmonds Police Department, 250 Fifth Ave. N., Edmonds, WA 98020. A tent is erected outside the Public Safety Complex to receive remembrances.
