MOUNTLAKE TERRACE

Casey Hamlett delivered a present to his teammates just in the nick of time.

Hamlett’s 18-footer as time expired gave Edmonds-Woodway a 39-37 Wesco South victory over Mountlake Terrace Dec. 22 at Mountlake Terrace High School.

Hamlett finished with a game-high 13 points.

“It was a very exciting game … a defensive battle,” Mountlake Terrace head coach Nalin Sood said.

Mountlake Terrace held a four-point lead with one minute, two seconds remaining but a Max Ortiz 15-footer with 12 seconds remaining tied the score at 37.

After the Hawks’ John Allen was called for an offensive foul, the teams traded timeouts and the Warriors got the ball back and Hamlett drained the game-winner.

The Hawks led 15-11 at halftime.

“It was a tremendous defensive battle,” Sood said.

Allen and Tyler Stracener led the Hawks with nine points.

Ortiz added nine for the Warriors (3-1, 5-2).

“It was a good game for Terrace. It shows we can compete against a good team like (Edmonds-Woodway), a team that’s going to be in the postseason in our league,” Sood said.
