Eight Highland Skating Club ice skaters captured first-place honors at Ice Fest 2004 last week at OlympicView Ice Arena in Mountlake Terrace.
More than 250 skaters from the Pacific Northwest and Western United States took part in the Aug. 12-14 non-qualifying event, which many clubs are treating as a tune-up for a regional competition in October.
Angela Maher led the way for Highland, taking first in the adult silver ladies final standings and the adult pairs category with Joel Maher.
Chrissy Hughes placed first in both the free skate and short program to finish first overall in the novice ladies category. Teammate Jennifer Liao was two spots back after taking third in the free skate and fourth in the short program.
Adam Munday took first in the short program and second in the free skate to finish second overall in the novice men category.
Other winners for Highland were: Joshua Farris (juvenile boys); Winnie Anderson (level 4 girls free skate); Kelly Nguyen (preliminary girls Group A); Raelani Mark (preliminary girls Group B); and Pleasant Gartzman (pre-preliminary girls Group C).
Erin Rautenberg and Hayden Franko placed second in the preliminary pairs category.
Brett McCoubrey placed second in the free skate and third in the short program to finish third overall in the intermediate ladies Group 1C standings. Christina Markezinis took fifth in both the free skate and short program to finish fifth overall in the intermediate ladies Group 1A standings.
In the intermediate ladies category, McCoubrey finished ninth overall and Markezinis was 11th.
Melanie Busch placed second to Nguyen in preliminary girls Group A and Katina Chung was seventh. Allison Arrigoni finished third in preliminary girls Group C and Heather Von Hulle was third in pre-juvenile girls Group B.
Other top finishers were: Liliuolani Pickford (fourth, pre-juvenile girls Group A); Naomi Skaggs (fourth, pre-preliminary girls Group B); Kathryn Weier (sixth, open pre-juvenile girls); and Deneen Fischer (seventh, open juvenile girls).
