Nationally renowned performer Christian Swenson brings his unique “Human Jazz” show to the Meadowdale High School Black Box Theater Nov. 6 as part of Lynnwood’s Saturday Matinee Performance Series for children.
Called “a one-man animal kingdom,” Swenson uses his body and voice, to transform into sniveling gnomes, lumbering dinosaurs and other animals and aliens. He also leads the audience in “hand dansing,” singing, and performs improvisations from audience suggestions.
“Human Jazz,” Swenson’s one-man show, is a journey of transformation. It begins with a couple of “singing rocks” and travels into multiple worlds of body and voice. Swenson then introduces humanity’s roots by de-evolving into an amoeba and resurfacing as a mysterious creature that lumbers, slumbers and bellows. He continues with stories of Shaman, a segment titled “Face Weather,” a wild version of the “Jabberwocky” and then engages the audience to challenge him with word improvisations.
Swenson’s “Human Jazz” performs at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Meadowdale High School Black Box Theater, located at 6002 168th Street SW in Lynnwood. Seating is limited and tickets are available at the door at 1:30 p.m. Performances are free with a suggested donation of $3 for adults and $2 for children.
The Saturday Matinee Performance Series is sponsored by the Lynnwood Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, Lynnwood Arts Commission and by a grant from the Washington State Arts Commission.
