Trinity Lutheran Church’s Pasi organ comes to life July 20 as part of “Hymn Festival,” a special summer performance featuring two nationally known organists, David Cherwien and Mark Sedio.

Cherwien, who holds a doctorate of musical arts in organ performance, is the director of music at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and music director for the National Lutheran Choir, both based in Minneapolis, Minn.

As a composer of liturgical music for choir and organ, and author of the book “Let the People Sing,” Cherwien can play entire church services with little reference to printed music. He composes or improvises much of his music during a service. Cherwien is a founding member of the Association of Lutheran Church Musicians and is also active in the American Guild of Organists, and Chorister’s Guild.

Mark Sedio is director of music at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis and also serves on the music staff at Luther Seminary in Saint Paul. He is an active recitalist, clinician, conductor and composer, presenting hymn festivals and recitals around the United States and Europe.

More than 100 of Sedio’s compositions for choir, organ, piano, solo voice and instrument ensembles are in print with major music publishers. Sedio’s hymns and psalm settings have been included in several denominational hymnals and hymnal supplements.

Trinity’s organ is distinguished for its custom design and contruction by Martin Pasi Organ Builders of Roy, Wash. Installed in 1995, the 29-stop, two manual, mechanical action instrument is encased in a freestanding Italianate black walnut case.
