It’s not embarrassing to be a tree hugger anymore, said Joseph Irons, president of Irons Brothers Construction, restating a quote he heard recently from a speaker at the Built Green conference. This remodeling company, whose core values include green and sustainable practices, now holds a four-star rating with the EnviroStars Program in King County.

Based in Shoreline, Irons Brothers Construction, Inc., offers residential and light commercial remodeling. They work with clients to determine their project needs and wants and incorporate green practices that are a fit for their project and budget.

The company recognizes the growing demand for greener remodeling services and assists its clients by providing sustainable options. Each remodeling project may have any combination of sustainable, efficient and healthy elements. Detailed descriptions of their services can be seen at www.ironsbc.com, or call 206-306-PROS (7767).

The EnviroStars program certifies companies based on their practices that demonstrate a commitment to protecting the environment by properly managing and reducing hazardous waste.

To achieve this some of the sustainable practices Irons Brothers Construction performs include:

• Hazardous and construction waste reduction at all work sites through use of a Jobsite Recycling Plan

• Substituting hazardous cleaning materials for natural products such as: baking soda, vinegar, and castile soap to protect the user and the environment

• Appropriate handling, storage and disposal of all hazardous waste following King County’s Waste Management Guidelines

• Having a system of policies and procedures in place to handle hazardous waste and spilled materials, including a spill response plan with spill kits readily available

These careful, yet practical, considerations are given to every project and have earned this new member a four-star EnviroStars rating. The company is shooting for five stars in 2010.
