The staff room at Gateway Middle School was piled high with pies last week.
Parents brought a total of 70 pies to school for teachers and staff Wednesday, Nov. 26, the day before Thanksgiving. Everyone who worked at the school — administrators, teachers, custodians and more — received a pie.
“We just wanted to thank the staff,” said parent Amanda Healy, who organized the event with Liza Granada. The two are Gateway PTSA Staff Appreciation Co-Chairs. “It was Thanksgiving and we thought pies would be a good idea.”
PTSA members Kris Helgerson and Karen Saquing decorated the staff lounge.
Predominately the pies were pumpkin, but there were peach, apple and berry pies too. Teachers and others came to the staff room throughout the day and took their pick.
“The staff were delighted,” Healy said.
