MARYSVILLE

After the Jackson Timberwolves were swept 3-0 by host Marysville-Pilchuck Nov. 1, they returned the favor to Stanwood later that evening at the 4A District 1 volleyball tournament.

Jackson blanked the Spartans 29-27, 25-22 and 25-17 to set up a loser-out game versus Edmonds-Woodway Nov. 3.

But, the Timberwolves’ season came to an end at the hands of their Wesco South foes 25-8, 25-16 and 25-14 at the Jim Linden Field House.

Jackson finished the 2007 campaign 7-10 overall.

Jackson coach Erik Champoux said while his squad wasn’t using it as an excuse; they were without their No. 1 outside hitter Angelina Rich, who was taking a college entrance exam.

“Beyond that, we played hard,” Champoux said. “We’ll be there next year. It’s just sad it won’t be this year.” Cerise Knakal had 10 assists to lead the Timberwolves; Malisa Marisigan had two aces and 13 digs, and Gabby Ludwig contributed seven kills and one ace.

Champoux credited the Sabotage Volleyball Bond, a select squad he coaches.

“I want to make this league as good as I can,” said the first-year coach. “The kids build themselves up from November to June.”

While a job at Puetz Golf pays his bills, Champoux said his heart is on the hardwood: “I can sell golf in my sleep, but this is my passion.”
