Local students are taking part in the effort to reduce water pollution in their communities.
Fifth-graders at Forest View Elementary School in the Everett School District are hosting a Water Pollution Fair from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 28.
The students have spent months learning different types of water testing and evaluating local water quality, as well as following an online study of the Costa Rica coastline through National Geographic.
Last month the Snohomish County PUD awarded 17 mini grants for science-related educational projects in seven school districts and one private school.
In the Edmonds School District, fourth-graders at Terrace Park Elementary School will explore the uses of hydropower and how to transfer wind and water into electrical energy.
Third- and fourth-graders at Beverly Elementary School will build electrical circuits and other battery-powered projects to learn how energy can change into other forms.
In the Everett School District, high school freshmen will learn about hydrogen fuel cell technology using model cars charged by solar panels.
